PARKING GARAGE LED LIGHTING RETROFIT
This parking garage lighting project's dramatic improvement in lighting came along with $22,489 in utility rebate incentives from the NSW Energy Saving Scheme when this client upgraded the aging, inefficient T8 florescent lighting.

FACILITY STATISTICS: THE BENEFITS OF A LIGHTING UPGRADE
Common lighting issues in parking garages include dark, shadowy areas and poor light quality.
By replacing the existing inefficient T8 florescent lighting with energy efficient LED that consume only 32 watts each fixture, this facility is taking advantage of major energy savings.
At the end of this project the client saves 56 watts per fixture, reducing energy usage by 57%!
DAYLIGHT AND MICRO WAVE SENSOR
Designed to increase savings further, simply by reducing lighting to 20% in the main areas, and to switch off completely in side areas parking spots until movement is detected.
This would be caused by a person walking, within 10 meters of the light fitting resulting in the lighting being activated.
In areas where there is little traffic or enough daylight then the savings can amount to 90% as in car parks, toilet areas etc
COST SAVINGS: DOES IT REALLY ADD UP?
Before completing this LED lighting retrofit project, Future Energy Savers performed a full facility audit. This means all of the existing fixtures were counted, along with their rate of energy consumption and hours of operation, and a cost of operating was established.
The new, more energy-efficient system was also proposed in the same way.
The difference in energy usage total $70,640 in annual or if you wish $5,886 electricity cost savings a month.
kWh were reduced by 57% annually with this LED retrofit.
The client qualified for $22,489 in energy-efficiency rebates from NSW ESS, and an additional cost sharing program amount was gained by installing sensors in some areas.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI)
Deciding to invest in energy-efficiency is a decision that every company or business must come by on their own.
Oftentimes, an investment in energy-efficiency will yield more than a return on investment. By installing sensors the ROI can be reduced to just 6 months.
The above project cost $42,543 so the actual ROI is 7.2 months with savings based on 50,000 hours life and a five year warranty.
